The Magnatune home page has been updated to show "What's hot right now"
The top 15 albums are updated hourly:
if you click on "more" you get a list of the top 100 most popular albums: in all genres, for the past 7 days:
The audio player at the top is pre-filled with the first song of each album in popularity order. This makes it very easy to sample across the various genres at Magnatune to see what you might like. Also, each albums in the list is given their chart position (ie, number 50). One big reason for doing this was finding that members listen to a much greater variety of music than we expected.
I've updated all of the genre pages so that the audio player plays the first song from each album by popularity and gives the rank of each album.
The site changes look good. Magnatune is still a great place to be.

Nice feature, but I worry it may reward the most popular artists, rather than promote music which is less well known (at magnatune you have an advantage of having no embarassingly bad music). I'd rather like less in "What's hot", and another set, chosen with a semi-random less popular music (probably best not to title it "What's not" ;-)).

Try using the "you may also like" feature, which is all about strong correlations and much less about popularity.
